  • Ian was practically raised at Uplands Golf Club, and has been groomed under the guidance of former forty-two year Head Professional, Don Billsborough, and thirty-eight year professional Bruce Rands; to this day, Ian is very proud to continue the legacy of the golf professionals he has succeeded. Beginning in the back shop at the age of sixteen, Ian quickly realized he had found an industry in which he would like to grow.

    In 2006, he completed the Professional Golf Management Program at Camosun College and turned professional that same year.  PGA of Canada accredited in teaching, club fitting, the rules of golf, and retail, Ian brings an air of professionalism and enjoyment to daily life at Uplands. Whether he’s behind the counter or on the first tee chatting with members and guests, patrons can always expect to be welcomed with a friendly greeting and a willingness to do whatever it takes to make their day a better one. Ian fosters a sense of fun and camaraderie and brings that mindset to the job every day.

  • Born and raised in Victoria, Justin began golfing at the age of ten and by age twelve he had joined the Uplands Golf Club as a junior member. By age fifteen, Justin had become fully immersed in the golf industry and began working at Uplands Golf Club.

    During his playing career, Justin competed in various local junior and amateur tournaments representing Uplands Golf Club . He then went on to play for the University of Victoria Vikes from 2000-2005. After graduation, Justin became the assistant coach of the UVIC golf team for several seasons.

    In 2011, he became PGA of Canada certified and returned to Uplands Golf Club as an Assistant Professional. In 2017, Justin attained his PGA of Canada Class 'A' status within the golf industry. Along with his position at Uplands, Justin is the Head Coach for the University of Victoria men's and women's golf teams.

    Justin has a strong passion for coaching & teaching lessons to the Uplands Golf Club members and guests. As a former club fitting rep for both Callaway and Taylor Made, Justin is able to help members with all of their club fitting needs. When not in the shop, or out on the course, Justin can be found enjoying time with his wife Kim and 2 young daughters, Adilynn & Maliyah.

  • Certified with the Professional Golfers’ Association of Canada since 1982,  Dave has been a Teaching Professional at Uplands Golf Club since 2007 and the Lead Teaching Professional since 2014.

    Prior to joining Uplands, Dave enjoyed a successful teaching and administrative career in Alberta, holding positions as Assistant Professional, Associate Professional, Head Professional, Director of Golf, and General Manager at Sturgeon Valley Golf and Country Club, Edmonton Country Club, Heather Glen Golf Club, Wintergreen Golf and Country Club, and Cochrane Golf Club. In addition to his teaching career at Uplands, Dave is the assistant coach to the University of Victoria Vikes’ Men’s and Women’s golf teams.

    Dave has also enjoyed a successful playing career in which he became the Victoria City Junior Champion in 1976, Alberta PGA Match Play Champion in both 1985 and 1987, Alberta PGA Champion in 1984, 1988 and 1989, and Alberta PGA Stroke Play Champion in 1989, along with numerous Professional and Amateur tournament wins and two years’ as a Canadian Tour player.

    Dave’s passion for the game is undeniable and his ability to convey its complexities to his students has earned him multiple nominations for and a win of the Alberta PGA Junior Teacher of the Year award; however, Dave’s major point of pride lies in the accomplishments of his students.

  • Born and raised in Victoria, Ben enjoyed playing a number of sports growing up, but it was golf he found a passion for and by 1993 he was a junior member at Uplands.  By the time he reached high school, Ben had joined the Pro Shop team and was working under the tutelage of long-time head professional, Don Billsborough, further integrating himself into the uplands family. 

    Ben has always enjoyed the competitive side of golf and after successful junior campaign that included capturing the Victoria city Junior championship in 1998, he was off to the U.S. where he earned a scholarship to play collegiate golf.  Competing in both the NJCAA at Temple College in Temple, Texas, and the NCAA at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he received NCAA All-American Academic honors while earning his BA in Science. 

    After graduating, Ben returned home, rejoining the Uplands Pro Shop team while pursuing his amateur career.  Over the next several years he was able to claim two Victoria city amateur championships, two BCGA mid-am championships, a PNGA mid-am championship, and a spot on the Willingdon Cup team representing BC at the Canadian amateur championship, as well as representing BC at several national and international events including the Amateur International championship held in Lima, Peru.

    Shifting his focus to the professional ranks, Ben joined the PGA of Canada in 2014, having since won several local professional events.  More recently Ben earned his class A status with the PGA of Canada in 2020 and still enjoys staying competitive and playing local VI club pro events with fellow local professionals, as well as playing various PGA of BC and PGA of Canada events.  One highlight includes sitting atop the leaderboard of the Bayview Place Open, help at Uplands Golf Club as part of the Mackenzie Tour and PGA Tour Canada, after an opening round 64.

    Ben now enjoys spending more time teaching students of the game and trying to pass on the many great lessons and opportunities the wonderful game of golf had provided him.  Ben enjoys working with players of all ages and skill levels, whether it’s private lessons, group lessons or clinics, junior camps or playing lessons.

  • Michelle was born in Ontario, moving out to BC with her family in 2006. She started golfing in 2007 with her father at Glacier Greens Golf Club in Comox. Michelle played competitive golf around BC and Canada in both junior and women’s events throughout highschool. She also worked as part of the Pro Shop team at Glacier Greens for 4 years while in high school and university. 

    After high school, she attended Simon Fraser University for a year and played on their women’s varsity golf team; she then made the decision to transfer to Camosun College and pursue a career as a golf professional, graduating with an Advanced Diploma in Golf Management and Golf Operations in 2014.  Michelle has since returned to Camosun to complete her BBA in HR, in hopes of increasing her knowledge of effective business practices.

    Michelle began working at Uplands Golf Club in April 2014 and has completed her journey to becoming a Class “A” PGA of Canada Golf Professional. Michelle was the assistant coach for Zone 6 Golf at the BC Summer Games in 2018, and has since pursued more certifications to work towards a focus on Coaching. She is currently working on completing her Coaching Specialization, to create a more robust offering at Uplands.

    Michelle is our junior co-ordinator, working to grow our junior program at Uplands, and in the community, to introduce a new generation to the game we all love.

  • Born and raised in Victoria, Sean started playing golf at the age of 7 when his grandparents put him in a junior golf camp. After learning the basics from the camp instructor, Ben Griffin, he was hooked on the game. During his playing career, Sean competed in many local, provincial and national events including the BC juvenile, BC Junior, BC Amateur and Canadian Junior Championships. He was then recruited by the University of Victoria to play on the Men's Varsity Golf Team from 2012-2016. After leaving the golf industry for a few years, Sean's love for the game brought him back to Uplands as a PGA of Canada Professional He enjoys teaching all ages and skill levels and hopes to pass on his passion for the game to others. When not in the shop or on the golf course, Sean can be found enjoying time with friends and family, or perfecting his game.
